After 15 years of visiting Las Vegas (and even spending a few months living there), we’ve become the go-to planners whenever someone in our circle is heading to Vegas. And almost every time, they ask the same thing: what is there to do besides gamble?

The truth is, most people only scratch the surface and end up missing some of the best parts of Vegas simply because they didn’t know what else was out there.

From hidden gems we didn’t expect to love to experiences we now plan our trips around, Vegas has a lot more going on than just casinos.

Whether it’s exploring different parts of the Strip, finding great food, catching a show, or getting out into the desert, there’s more than enough to fill your days: no gambling required.

If you’re still in the planning stage, the biggest mistake we see people make is trying to cram everything into their trip.  On our first trip, we did it too and ended up exhausted before we even scratched the surface.

As frequent visitors to Vegas, we’ve learned that how you structure your days matters just as much as what you choose to do.

1. Experience the Las Vegas Strip (Especially at Night)

Seeing Las Vegas Boulevard lit up at night is, in my opinion, the number one thing to do in Vegas besides gambling.

We never get tired of it: the neon lights, the crowds, the constant energy. From our very first trip, we were completely captivated, and even after 15 years of visiting, it’s still the one thing we make time for every single visit.

Las Vegas Boulevard is home to some of the most iconic sights in the city, stretching for about 4 miles with something happening on every block. One minute you’re standing in front of the Sphinx, the next you’re looking up at the Eiffel Tower or catching a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty in the distance.

But everything changes at dusk.

As the sun goes down, the Strip comes alive; massive marquees light up, LED displays flash in every direction, and the entire street feels electric. It’s one of those places that somehow feels just as exciting the tenth time as it does the first.

Over the years, we’ve stayed all over Vegas, but we always prefer being right on the Strip. One trip, we stayed way down near the south end, and even then, we made a point to head back toward the heart of it just to soak it all in again. There’s just nothing else like it.

The city has made it incredibly easy to explore on foot, with pedestrian bridges, escalators, and walkways connecting most major hotels. Along the way, you’ll find street performers, live music, restaurants, and some of the best people-watching anywhere.

If you want a different perspective, driving the Strip at night is just as unforgettable. Whether you rent a car or book a limo, seeing the lights from the road gives you a whole new appreciation for how over-the-top Vegas really is.

2. Visit the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas​

You can’t miss the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas. It sits right in the center of the Strip and somehow always catches your eye, especially once it lights up at night.

I’ve never seen the real Eiffel Tower in Paris, but I have taken in the view from the top of this one, and the view over the Strip is incredible. From 460 feet up, you get a completely different perspective of the lights, the crowds, and all the energy that makes Vegas what it is.

👉 If you’re deciding between observation decks in Vegas, this is one of the best for central Strip views.

I especially love where it’s positioned. Being right across from the Bellagio means you can see the fountains from above, which makes it feel a little extra special, especially in the evening.

If you’re planning a romantic night, this is one of those experiences that really stands out. You can even book a table at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant, which overlooks the Strip and the fountains from about 110 feet up.  This is definitely one of the more memorable dinner spots in Vegas.

We recommend going up around sunset if you can.  Watching the Strip light up is pretty incredible.

 3.  Watch the Bellagio Fountains

As the music starts, the Bellagio Fountains begin a perfectly choreographed dance, and it is easily one of the most captivating sights on the Las Vegas Strip.

Water shoots high into the air, reaching up to 460 feet, building toward a dramatic finale where the crashing water sounds like thunder. It is one of those moments that makes you stop and just watch.

There is a romantic feel, and we often see couples swaying or dancing to the music with the fountains moving in the background.

I have seen the fountains more times than I can count, and they never get old, day or night.

One of my favorite spots to watch is from the walkway along the right side of the Cosmopolitan, because it is usually less crowded than the main viewing areas, and you still get an incredible view.

And whatever you do, stay until the very end, the final burst is the best part. One time, we caught it on a really windy night, and the water started drifting and swirling in unexpected ways, which made it even more fun to watch.

If you only watch the fountains once, try to time it for after dark; it is much more dramatic with the lights.

4.  Explore the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino

The Cosmopolitan is one of the most unique and eclectic hotels on the Las Vegas Strip, and it is absolutely worth taking the time to explore, even if you are not staying there.

Throughout the property, you will find unexpected details, from interesting seating areas and quirky art to the massive chandelier that spans multiple floors.

We bring friends here when we visit because there is so much to discover. There are hidden hallways leading to a secret pizza spot, tables that feel like something out of Alice in Wonderland, giant bronze statues, and even oversized red stilettos tucked into corners.

Part of the fun at the Cosmopolitan is tracking down the hidden speakeasies. There is a pawn shop with a secret entrance and a barbershop that transforms into a lively spot after dark.

A personal favorite is Ghost Donkey, a hidden speakeasy serving mezcal cocktails. It is tucked away inside the Cosmopolitan, behind a green push door near Hattie B’s Nashville Hot Chicken. It looks like a maintenance door, so it is easy to walk right past it.

During the winter months, the rooftop pool deck turns into an ice skating rink, complete with fire pits and s’mores, which gives the whole place a completely different feel.

We have never stayed here overnight, but it is high on my list. Between the restaurants, hidden bars, and overall atmosphere, it is one of my favorite places on the Strip, and somewhere I always look forward to visiting.

5.  Stroll Through the Park at MGM Park

The Park is a lively outdoor space in the center of the Strip, filled with restaurants, bars, and shops, and it is a great place to slow down for a bit.

With plenty of outdoor seating, it is one of the best spots to grab a drink or a bite to eat and just people-watch. Sometimes we come here with no real plan and end up sitting for a while, just taking it all in.

One of my favorite things to see here is Bliss Dance, the 40-foot illuminated sculpture that really stands out at night and adds to the atmosphere.

With Dolby Live and T-Mobile Arena just steps away, this area is also a great place to stop before or after a show, whether you are heading in for dinner, drinks, or just soaking up the energy of the Strip.

6. Listen to Live Music on the Brooklyn Bridge at New York New York​

The Brooklyn Bridge at New York New York is a fun and unexpected spot on the Strip where you can catch live music and enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere.

Live music is typically playing from Thursday through Sunday, both in the afternoons and evenings, so you have options whether you want a lively night out or something more low-key.

We like to wander over in the afternoon to catch a band when it is less crowded. It is easy to find an outdoor table, listen to music, and do some people watching without feeling rushed.

There are several bars and restaurants nearby, which makes it easy to grab a drink or a bite while you are there.

Plus,  it’s not every day you get to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, unless you live in New York, which makes it a fun little Vegas twist.

7.  Join the Party on the LINQ Promenade

The LINQ Promenade is a lively, pedestrian-only area in the heart of the Strip, lined with bars, restaurants, shops, and plenty of people watching. It is an easy place to spend time when you are looking for things to do in Vegas besides gambling.

There is a mix of fun photo spots, unique attractions, and casual places to stop for a drink or a bite. You will find everything from a giant gummy bear chandelier to a replica “Welcome to the Fabulous Las Vegas” sign, along with virtual reality experiences, a zip line, and the High Roller observation wheel towering above it all.

We often bring friends here on their first trip because it is right in the middle of the action and gives a great feel for the energy of the Strip. There is always something going on, and it is easy to pop in and out of places as you explore.

When it is just the two of us, we tend to visit earlier in the day or on weekdays. It can get very crowded, especially on weekends, so timing your visit makes a big difference.

8.  Ride the High Roller Observation Wheel

Step into the High Roller, the massive Ferris wheel on the Las Vegas Strip, and enjoy some of the best views in the city.

During the 30-minute ride, you are treated to sweeping 360-degree views from enclosed passenger pods, allowing you to see for miles as you rise 550 feet above the promenade.

Whether you choose a daytime ride, go at night, or book an open bar experience, the High Roller is an easy and fun activity for just about anyone.

We recommend this to all of our friends, especially for their first trip. For the best experience, try to time your ride around sunset, when the sky starts to change, and the lights of Las Vegas begin to glow. That transition is what really makes it memorable.

9.  Party at the Fremont Street Experience

The Fremont Street Experience is one of the most energetic areas in Las Vegas, located in the historic downtown district and packed with live entertainment, music, and nonstop activity.

Known for its massive overhead LED canopy, the entire street lights up with immersive shows throughout the night, creating a completely different vibe from the Strip.

We never miss a chance to spend time here. From one end to the other, there is always something happening, from free live concerts and street performers to people flying overhead on the SlotZilla zipline.

It is an easy place to wander, with hotels, bars, restaurants, and entertainment all within a few blocks.

Some of our favorite spots here include Sand Dollar Lounge, Evil Pie, The Griffin, and Atomic Liquors, especially if you are looking for somewhere to pop in for a drink or take a break from the crowds.

• Our take: It is loud, chaotic, and a lot of fun — definitely worth experiencing at least once

10.  Explore Downtown Container Park

If you are looking for something a little different, Downtown Container Park is a fun stop just off Fremont Street. Built from repurposed shipping containers, this open-air shopping and entertainment area has a more relaxed, creative vibe than the Strip.

During the day, it has a laid-back feel with small shops, casual dining, and a family-friendly atmosphere. At night, it shifts a bit more toward an adult vibe, with live music, drinks, and a more social scene.

We like stopping here for a drink at Oak & Ivy, especially if we want to slow things down for a bit. It is a great place to grab a handcrafted cocktail, find a seat, and take a break from the chaos of Fremont Street.

Even if you are just passing through, it is worth a quick walk to check out the giant praying mantis sculpture out front (it shoots fire at night) and soak in a different side of downtown Las Vegas.

11.  ​Stroll Through the Arts District

If you are looking for something a little different, the Arts District is a great place to explore and take a break from the usual Vegas scene.

This 18-block neighborhood is filled with hand-painted murals, vintage shops, local restaurants, bars, and small galleries, and it has a completely different feel from the Strip. There are no casinos here, which makes it even more appealing when you want a change of pace.

We love spending time in the Arts District, and it has changed a lot over the past 10 years, all for the better. It feels more local than touristy, with new restaurants opening alongside longtime favorites.

Some of our go-to spots are ReBAR, Velveteen Rabbit, and Letty’s, and the murals are always changing, so there is usually something new to see each time we visit.

Whether you are stopping by for a craft beer, checking out a unique event like a drag brunch or live show, or just wandering through the streets, this is one of the best places to experience a different side of Las Vegas.

If you have a little extra time in your itinerary, this is well worth stepping off the Strip for.

One spot that really stood out to us is The ENGLiSH Hotel. We stopped in to take a look, and it feels like a completely different side of Las Vegas.

It is stylish, quiet, and a bit more refined than the usual Vegas experience, with a beautiful pool area and an upscale restaurant, The Pepper Club. It immediately went on my list for a future stay.

If you are looking for something in the Arts District that still feels like Vegas, but without the chaos of the Strip or Fremont, this is definitely one to check out.

12.  Take in a Show in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is known as the entertainment capital of the world, and there is no shortage of shows to choose from.

From major concert venues like T-Mobile Arena and The Sphere to smaller, more intimate spaces, you can find live music happening almost every night of the week.

But music is just the beginning.

Vegas is also home to world-famous magic acts, illusionists, and stage productions, ranging from family-friendly performances to edgier, adult-only shows.

We have seen quite a few shows over the years, from David Copperfield to Cher, and there is always something new to experience.

One of our all-time favorites, and the one we recommend most often, is Absinthe. It is definitely not family-friendly, but it is one of the most entertaining and unique shows we have seen in Las Vegas.

We also like to stop in at Harrah’s Piano Bar during happy hour to catch Big Elvis. It is a more casual experience, and always a fun one.

It is entirely possible to see a different show every night in Las Vegas for years and never run out of options.

13.  Explore Museums and Unique Exhibits in Las Vegas

Museums and exhibitions are some of the most overlooked things to do in Vegas besides gambling, but they are just as diverse and unique as the city itself.
From vintage neon signs and mob history to interactive exhibits and pop culture experiences, you could easily spend days exploring them.
Instead of trying to see everything, I recommend starting with a few that really stand out.

Neon Museum

If you are curious about old Las Vegas, the Neon Museum is one of the most memorable places to visit, especially at night when the signs in the boneyard light up and bring the city’s history to life.

Mob Museum

The Mob Museum offers a fascinating look into the history of organized crime in Las Vegas. We visited when it first opened during a private event, and it is one of those places that sticks with you.
There is even a speakeasy in the basement, which adds to the experience and makes it feel a little more immersive.

14. Explore Botanical Gardens in Las Vegas

​If you are looking for something peaceful and a little different, visiting a botanical garden is a great way to slow down and take a break from the usual Vegas energy.

Bellagio Botanical Gardens and Conservatory

Walking through the Bellagio Conservatory is one of the most beautiful free things to do in Las Vegas.

Each season, the 14,000-square-foot space is completely transformed by the horticulture team, with elaborate floral displays and themed installations that change throughout the year.

From spring blooms to winter wonderlands, it is always worth stopping in to see what they have created.

The Garden at  Wynn

The Wynn gardens are always beautifully done and feel a bit more refined.

The displays change throughout the year, and the details are what really stand out. The floral carousel is especially fun to see, with the horses appearing to move through the flowers.

 The Springs Preserve

If you want something more educational and outdoors, Springs Preserve offers a completely different experience.

This 180-acre space focuses on desert ecosystems, sustainability, and local history, with walking trails, exhibits, and seasonal events.  It is easy to spend a few hours here, or even most of the day if you want a break from the Strip.

Ethel M Chocolate Factory and Cactus Garden

Ethel M combines a botanical garden with a sweet bonus.

You can walk through the cactus garden, which features plants native to the Mojave Desert, and then head inside for a chocolate factory tour.

During the holidays, the garden is transformed with thousands of lights, making it an especially fun time to visit. Adults can also enjoy wine and chocolate pairings.

15.  Visit the Las Vegas Healing Garden

The Las Vegas Healing Garden is a quiet and meaningful place to reflect and remember those who lost their lives in the 2017 tragedy.

This peaceful space is beautifully designed, with a walking path lined with trees, memorials, and personal tributes. As you move through the garden, you will see names and messages left in honor of those who were lost.

We did not expect to spend as much time here as we did, but it is one of those places that naturally slows you down. We found ourselves reading each memorial and reflecting on the impact of that day.

This is not a typical tourist stop, and it carries a very different energy than the rest of Las Vegas. It is not somewhere we would visit on every trip, but it is worth experiencing, especially if you are already exploring the nearby Arts District.

16.  Go Golfing

If you are looking for something a little more relaxed, golfing is another great option in Las Vegas.

Play a Round on a Pro Golf Course

Las Vegas is home to some incredible golf courses, ranging from well-known public courses to ultra-exclusive private clubs.

If you are visiting during the warmer months, consider booking an early morning or evening tee time to avoid the heat. Some courses even offer twilight rounds, which can be a great way to enjoy a more relaxed pace while still taking in the scenery.

Try Topgolf

Topgolf is a fun and social option, whether you are an experienced golfer or just looking to try something different.

With climate-controlled hitting bays, games built into each session, and food and drinks delivered right to your spot, it is easy to spend a few hours here without even realizing it.

This is one of those places that works well for groups or a casual night out when you want something interactive but low-pressure.

Play Mini Golf Vegas Style

If you are looking for something a little more lighthearted, Las Vegas has some fun mini golf options as well.

You will find everything from family-friendly courses with glowing neon and black lights to more adult-focused venues like Swingers, which combines mini golf with cocktails, food, and music.

17. Explore the Deep Dark Sea

If you are looking for something a little different, Las Vegas has a few surprising ways to explore life under the sea.

Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay

The Shark Reef Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in the United States, home to thousands of sea creatures, including sharks, sea turtles, and jellyfish.

Walking through the tunnel is one of the highlights, with fish swimming overhead and all around you, creating an immersive experience that feels far removed from the desert outside.

Shark Tank at Golden Nugget

For something a little more casual, we often stop by the Shark Tank at the Golden Nugget.

It is a free area where you can grab a drink and watch the sharks swim through the pool. There is even a waterslide that goes right through the tank, making it feel like you are swimming alongside them.

It is one of those unexpected Vegas moments that is fun to check out, even if you are just passing through Fremont Street.

18. Tour Iconic Las Vegas Venues

If you are interested in going behind the scenes, Las Vegas offers some unique tours that give you access to places most visitors never see.

Tour Allegiant Stadium

Take a behind-the-scenes tour of Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders.

You can explore areas like the broadcast booth, private suites, and even the Raiders locker room, getting a closer look at what happens on game day.

Even if you are not a sports fan, the stadium itself is impressive. It is a state-of-the-art facility and one of those places worth seeing just for its scale and design.

Tour Las Vegas Motor Speedway

If you are into racing, touring Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a completely different kind of experience.

You will get access to areas like the Neon Garage, luxury suites, racing garages, and Victory Lane, along with a look at multiple tracks, including the drag strip and dirt track.

If you want to take it a step further, you can also book a ride-along or driving experience, or plan your visit around a NASCAR event for a completely different level of excitement.

The Sphere

The Sphere is one of the newest and most talked-about venues in Las Vegas, and even if you have not been inside yet, it is hard to miss.

We watched it being built over several years, and seeing it finally completed is incredible. The exterior alone is worth seeing, especially at night when it lights up with massive digital displays.

Inside, the immersive experience is what sets it apart, combining visuals, sound, and technology in a way that is completely different from traditional venues.

19.  Zip Line High Above the Party

If you are looking for something a little more adventurous, ziplining in Las Vegas offers a completely different perspective on the city.

We have watched people fly overhead more times than we can count, and it always looks like a blast, especially at night when the lights below are at their brightest.

There are two popular options, depending on the experience you want:

SlotZilla on Fremont Street lets you fly like a superhero beneath the canopy of lights. The Zoomline stretches about five blocks and reaches 114 feet above the crowds, giving you a front row view of all the action below.

Robb did this with a group of friends and said it was one of the most fun things they did that trip.

Fly LINQ offers a different experience, launching you from about 12 stories high and sending you soaring over the LINQ Promenade on a zip line that runs over 1,000 feet. It feels a bit more open, with wide views of the Strip as you glide above the crowd.

If you want more of a party atmosphere, SlotZilla on Fremont Street is hard to beat. For a longer ride with views along the Strip, Fly LINQ is a great option.

20.  Ride the Roller Coasters and Thrill Rides

If you are looking for an adrenaline rush, Las Vegas has some surprisingly intense rides right on the Strip.

Big Apple Coaster at New York New York

The Big Apple Coaster takes you high above the Las Vegas Strip before dropping 203 feet at speeds over 67 miles per hour. It twists, turns, and even throws in a 180-degree heartline twist along the way.

If roller coasters are your thing, this is one of the most fun rides you can do without ever leaving the Strip.

Big Shot at the STRAT

If you are looking for a quick adrenaline rush, Big Shot at the STRAT delivers. This ride launches you straight up the tower, sending you even higher before dropping you back down in seconds.

Sitting more than 100 stories above the Strip, the views alone are enough to get your attention, even before the ride starts.

Sky Jump

If riding the tower isn’t enough, you can take it a step further and jump off the building!

At 886 feet, SkyJump lets you leap from the observation deck and descend to the ground below. It even holds a Guinness World Record as the highest commercial decelerator descent.

A friend of ours, Zak, did this, and it is one of those experiences that definitely gets your attention.

21.  Indulge in Extreme Experiences

If you are looking to push your limits, Las Vegas has no shortage of over-the-top, adrenaline-fueled experiences.

From racing supercars to flying through the desert or even operating heavy machinery, this is one place where you can try things you might never consider anywhere else.

Race a Luxury Sports Car

If you have ever wanted to get behind the wheel of a high-performance car, this is your chance.

At Las Vegas Motor Speedway, you can drive exotic cars like Lamborghinis and Porsches on a real track, with professional instruction to guide you along the way. You start with a quick orientation and track overview, then head out with an instructor before taking the wheel yourself.

We have done a few similar experiences over the years. Robb did a driving school with BMW, and we also did a ride-along at Dover International Speedway, which is still something we talk about. Coming into turn one and seeing the wall coming straight at you is something you do not forget!

Being behind the wheel yourself would take that experience to a completely different level.

Shoot a Machine Gun

For something completely different, you can try shooting a machine gun at one of the ranges in Las Vegas.

It is one of those bucket-list experiences most people never get to do, and the controlled environment with trained instructors makes it accessible even to beginners. 

Jump Dunes Baja Style

If you want something outdoors and fast-paced, dune buggy or Baja-style racing gives you the chance to fly across the desert at high speeds.

Hitting jumps, banking turns, and racing across open terrain is about as close as most people will get to off-road racing.

Fly a Fighter Jet

For a truly next-level experience, you can take to the skies in an aerobatic aircraft and experience high-speed maneuvers and aerial stunts.

This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime activities that definitely earns a spot on a Vegas bucket list.

Day Clubs and Pool Parties

Pool parties and day clubs are one of the most popular ways to experience Las Vegas during the day.

Part pool, part party, and part people watching, these events combine music, DJs, drinks, and a lively atmosphere that feels very different from anything else on the Strip.

Las Vegas clubs are known for world-famous DJs, impressive light shows, and a level of production that goes far beyond a typical night out. The atmosphere is high-energy, and the parties often run into the early morning.

If you want the full experience, dressing up and booking bottle service is the way to go. It is not cheap, but it is one of those over-the-top Vegas experiences that people come here for.

23. Take a Dance Class in Las Vegas

If you are looking for something fun, interactive, and a little outside your comfort zone, taking a dance class in Las Vegas can be a great experience.

You will find everything from pole dancing and aerial classes to more lighthearted options, such as learning basic moves or just having fun with a group. These classes are often designed for all skill levels, so you do not need any experience to join in.

They are not only entertaining, but they can also be a great workout and a chance to try something new during your trip.

If that style is not your thing, there are more laid-back options. Places like Gilley’s Saloon, Dance Hall & Bar-B-Que offer free line dancing lessons throughout the week, which are easy to join and a lot of fun.

24.  Take Karaoke To a New Level

If you are looking for something fun and a little different, karaoke in Las Vegas is not your typical night out.

You can grab a mic and sing with a live band or book a private karaoke room with friends, complete with food, drinks, and a huge library of songs to choose from.

The private rooms are especially popular, giving you your own space to relax, have fun, and not worry about singing in front of a crowd.

I am not much for regular karaoke in a bar, but I would absolutely rent a private karaoke room with a bunch of friends for a fun Vegas night without gambling.

Whether you are celebrating something or just looking for a fun night out, karaoke in Vegas is an easy way to let loose and do something a little out of the ordinary.

25. Explore Area 15

Area 15 is one of the most unique experiences in Las Vegas and is definitely worth adding to your list.

This immersive entertainment complex is filled with interactive art, live experiences, bars, and restaurants, all designed to feel a little outside of reality.

You can wander through places like Omega Mart, step into different worlds through virtual reality experiences, or explore themed attractions that range from playful to completely surreal.

What makes Area 15 stand out is that it is always changing. New shows and experiences come and go, so no two visits are exactly the same.

With free parking, we find it easy to meet friends away from the casinos.

Even if you do not book a specific experience, it is still worth visiting just to explore and take it all in.​

26. Visit a Cannabis Dispensary in Las Vegas

If you are curious, visiting a cannabis dispensary in Las Vegas can be an interesting and surprisingly approachable experience.

These are not back-alley shops. Dispensaries here are modern, well-designed, and staffed with knowledgeable employees who can answer questions and help guide you through the options.

Even if you are new to it, the environment is relaxed and low-pressure, so you can take your time, ask questions, and decide what feels right for you.

One spot that stands out is Planet 13 Las Vegas Cannabis Superstore. It is massive, with a viewing area where you can see how some of the products are made, a lounge, and several fun photo opportunities. It feels more like an experience than just a store, and it is a fun stop that does not involve gambling.

Even if cannabis is not your thing, many shops also carry branded merchandise, so you can still stop in, look around, and see what it is all about.

27. Shop Until You Drop in Las Vegas

Shopping in Las Vegas is an experience all on its own, whether you are browsing for fun or looking for something specific.

You will find everything from budget-friendly souvenir shops to high-end designer boutiques, all within a short distance of each other. Places like the Forum Shops and other shopping centers along the Strip make it easy to wander in and out and see what catches your eye.

Even if you are not a big shopper, it can still be fun to explore. We tend to pop into a few places here and there rather than make a full day of it.

If you are looking for something a little different, the Arts District has more unique finds, like vintage shops and specialty boutiques such as Rockin Bettie, which is known for its pinup style clothing.

Whether you are searching for a souvenir, something unique, or just window shopping, Las Vegas has just about everything you can imagine.

28. Get Hitched in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is known as the Wedding Capital of the World, with over 120,000 weddings performed here each year, and it is easy to see why.

Getting a marriage license is quick and simple, often taking as little as 15 minutes, and the office is open late, even until midnight. That convenience, combined with the variety of wedding options, makes Vegas one of the easiest places to say “I do.”

From themed ceremonies with Elvis as your officiant to spontaneous drive-through weddings, there is something here for every style, whether you are planning ahead or making a last-minute decision.

We did not get married in Vegas ourselves, but we have experienced the fun side of it. We once attended a surprise wedding officiated by Elvis, and our son actually chose Las Vegas for his elopement.

With chapels all over the city, it is one of those experiences that feels very “Vegas” and is hard to find anywhere else.

29.  Join the Mile High Club in Las Vegas

Once reserved for private jet setters and the ultra daring, the Mile High Club now has a Las Vegas twist.

With experiences like Love Cloud, couples can take a private flight over the city, complete with champagne and sweeping views as you climb above the lights of the Strip.

What happens next is entirely up to you, but the experience is designed with privacy in mind, making it a unique and memorable way to celebrate something special.

We have not done this ourselves, but friends of ours did this to celebrate a big birthday, and it is one of those experiences that still makes them smile, giggle, and blush a little when it comes up.

30. Eat, Drink, and Be Merry in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is one of the best food and drink cities in the world, and there is no shortage of options no matter what you are craving.

Restaurants in Las Vegas

With thousands of restaurants across the city, you can find just about anything, at any time of day or night.

Want dim sum at 3 in the morning or an all-you-can-eat buffet? You can do that. Looking for a memorable brunch with champagne and a view of the Bellagio Fountains? There are plenty of options for that, too.

If you are in the mood for something more over the top, Las Vegas is known for its supper clubs like Delilah or the Mayfair Supper Club, where dinner turns into a full experience with live entertainment.

We always make it a point to try something new each trip, but there are a few places we keep coming back to. Peppermill Restaurant and Fireside Lounge is one of our go-to spots any time of day, and we love stopping by Cleaver – Butchered Meats, Seafood & Classic Cocktails for happy hour steaks.

A food tour is another great way to experience a variety of restaurants without having to plan it all yourself.

Drinks and Nightlife

Las Vegas also has a bar scene that covers just about every style, from casual and laid-back to over-the-top and extravagant.

You can grab a cheap beer at a dive bar, sip a craft cocktail at a hidden speakeasy, or go all out with a once-in-a-lifetime drink experience.

There are rooftop bars with incredible views, poolside lounges, and live music venues, along with classic casino bars that give you a glimpse into old Vegas.

Some of our favorite nights in Vegas have been the unplanned ones, just grabbing a drink somewhere and seeing where the night goes.

31. Get Pampered in Las Vegas

If you are ready to slow things down, getting pampered is one of the best ways to relax and recharge in Las Vegas.

From luxurious hotel spas on the Strip to smaller day spas around the city, there are endless options for massages, facials, and full spa experiences.

You can also find more unique options like IV hydration therapy, blowout bars, and even fish spas, where tiny fish gently exfoliate your feet.

Whether you are recovering from a late night out or just looking for a break from the crowds, taking time for a spa treatment is a great way to reset before heading back out to enjoy the rest of your trip.

Hidden Gems in Las Vegas (Local Favorites You Might Miss)

Beyond the big attractions, some of our favorite places in Las Vegas are the ones that feel a little more relaxed, a little more local, and a lot less chaotic than the main Strip.

For a great cocktail and a more laid-back vibe, we like heading to The Mint Tavern. It has a bit of a vintage feel and is perfect for couples, especially during happy hour.

If you are looking for live music without the chaos of a nightclub, Sand Dollar Lounge is a great spot. We like going before the band starts so you can grab a seat and actually enjoy the music once it gets going.

For a classic Vegas happy hour, Oscars is a favorite for couples. And if you are in the mood for a great steak without the full dinner price tag, Cleaver is a go-to. Their happy hour is solid, but reservations are a must.

Golden Tiki is another fun stop, especially for couples. It has a completely different vibe and is one of those places that feels like an experience on its own.

For a more upscale date night, we like The Reserve Bar at Park MGM. It is a great place to slow down, have a drink, and enjoy a more intimate setting.

If you are with a group and want something more casual, Gilley’s Saloon is a fun option, especially earlier in the afternoon when you can enjoy the music without the late-night crowds.

When we want to get off the Strip for a bit, we head to Town Square. It has a wide variety of restaurants, easy parking, and is a great option for both couples and groups.

Peppermill is another classic Vegas stop. It is great for drinks or food, and if you are going with a group, we recommend calling ahead to make a reservation.

And for something a little more hidden, Capo’s Speakeasy is a fun off-Strip experience with an old-school feel and a really good Italian dinner. It works well for both couples and groups and feels like stepping into another era.

These are the kinds of places we try to work into our trips when we want a break from the crowds and a more memorable Vegas experience.

Things That Are Overrated in Las Vegas (What to Skip)

Not everything in Las Vegas lives up to the hype, especially if you are not interested in gambling. While there are plenty of incredible experiences, there are also a few that can eat up your time and budget without delivering much in return.

One of the biggest mistakes is trying to do every observation deck. While the views are impressive, once you have seen the Strip from above, the others start to feel repetitive. Pick one and enjoy it.

We like going up the STRAT for happy hour, where you can often find 2-for-1 admission and drinks. It is a fun way to take in the view without overpaying for the experience. We would skip the dining experience, though, as it tends to be overpriced for what you get.

Another thing we skip is the monorail. While it sounds convenient, it does not always stop where you need it, and it can be more hassle than it is worth.

We have found it easier and more flexible to take the Deuce bus along the Strip and to Fremont Street, especially if you are going longer distances or just want a break from walking.

Buffets are another experience that can be hit or miss. While some are still worth it, long lines and high prices do not always match the quality. We would rather spend that time enjoying a great meal at a restaurant we really want to try.

That said, there are a few buffets we do enjoy. The Wicked Spoon at the Cosmopolitan and the Bellagio Buffet are both solid choices, especially if you are looking for variety. The Bellagio is a favorite for things like beef Wellington and king crab when available.  We have also heard great things about the seafood buffet at the Palms and are planning to try that on our next trip.

And unless you are truly into the club scene, expensive bottle service can quickly become one of the most overpriced experiences in Vegas. It can be fun, but it is definitely not for everyone.

It is also easy to feel like you need to pay for every experience, but some of the best things to do in Las Vegas are completely free. Between the fountains, the Strip, and Fremont Street, you can easily fill a day without spending much at all.

Common Mistakes to Avoid in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is an easy place to get overwhelmed, especially on your first visit. A little planning can go a long way in making your trip more enjoyable.

One of the biggest mistakes is underestimating how much walking you will do. Distances on the Strip can be deceiving, and what looks like a short walk can take much longer than expected. Vegas blocks are not like city blocks, and walking between casinos can easily take 20 to 30 minutes or more.

Comfortable walking shoes are a must. You will be on your feet more than you think, and having the right shoes can make a huge difference in how much you enjoy your day.

Staying hydrated is just as important, especially in the desert heat. It is easy to forget to drink water when you are busy exploring, but it can catch up with you quickly.

Another common mistake is taking photos with street performers without realizing what it involves. While it can look like a fun photo opportunity, many buskers expect a generous tip, and it can turn into an awkward situation if you are not prepared.

Budgeting is another big one. Las Vegas can get expensive fast, and there are fees and extras for just about everything. From resort fees to drinks, shows, and transportation, costs can add up quickly if you are not paying attention.

Finally, trying to do too much in one day can take away from the experience. There is so much to see and do, but leaving a little room in your schedule to relax or explore often leads to the best moments.

For a more local and laid-back experience, the Arts District is another great option, especially if you enjoy unique restaurants, vintage shops, and a break from the casino atmosphere.
