The park offers full hookups and direct beach access, so it’s easy to walk from your RV straight to the sand. Sites can feel a little close together when the park is full, but the location more than makes up for it.

The beaches here are some of the most family-friendly in Rocky Point. The surf is usually gentle, and during low tide, you can explore tide pools filled with interesting sea life. It’s also a popular stretch of beach for food vendors and water sports, which adds to the lively atmosphere.

The park offers full hookups and is close to a variety of restaurants and bars, making it easy to get out and enjoy the local scene without driving. Its smaller size gives it a more close-knit feel, but sites can be tight, especially for larger rigs.

We noticed that many of the RVers staying here appeared to be long-term guests, and the overall vibe felt well-suited for active seniors or those planning extended stays in Rocky Point. Amenities include restrooms and a dog park, which add to the convenience of longer visits.

The park offers full hookups and is well-maintained, with sites positioned to take advantage of the beachfront setting. While some sites are closer together, the views and easy access to the sand make it a popular spot for RVers who want to be right on the water.

One thing that really sets The Reef apart is its location. It’s close to the sand dunes, making it a great choice for RVers with ATVs or side-by-sides who want easy access to riding areas. At the same time, it’s a bit farther from downtown Rocky Point and the Malecón, but much closer to Cholla Bay.

Amenities include restrooms, laundry facilities, and on-site dining options such as Wrecked at the Reef and Mare Blu, popular spots to grab a meal or drink without leaving the park. The beach here is also a great place to relax or catch the sunset at the end of the day.

This park is a great option if you want beachfront access but don’t mind being a bit farther from the main downtown area.

Concha del Mar RV Park is a beachfront RV park in Rocky Point that offers a very different experience from the larger, full-hookup parks. We’ve stayed here for two seasons (2023 and 2026), so we’ve had the chance to really get to know how it works and what to expect over time.

If you’re comfortable boondocking, this is one of the more unique beachfront options in Rocky Point.

The park has direct beach access, and there are beachfront sites available with plenty of space between rigs — even along the water. Unlike many other parks in Rocky Point, Concha del Mar is a dry-camping (boondocking) site, but there is a dump station and water available. The park will also pump tanks and refill water for a small fee, which makes longer stays manageable.

During our stays, the atmosphere has been quiet and very snowbird-friendly, with many seasonal RVers returning year after year. The park itself is older but well-maintained, and the beachfront views — especially at sunset — are among the best in Rocky Point.

Another big advantage is the location. It’s easy to get around town from here, and you can walk to nearby restaurants and bars, which adds to the convenience for longer stays.

Captain Ron’s RV Resort

Captain Ron’s RV Park is a small RV park in Rocky Point located within a gated community, just a short distance from restaurants and local amenities. While it’s not beachfront, it offers a convenient location for RVers who want to be close to town.

During our visit, the park had a social, community feel, with many seasonal and full-time residents. It’s the kind of place where people seem to know their neighbors and settle in for longer stays. Because of its smaller size, sites can feel tight, especially for larger rigs or short-term travelers.

Overall, Captain Ron’s is better suited for RVers planning extended stays rather than quick visits, particularly those who enjoy a more residential and social atmosphere.

Whale Hill Storage and RV Park:

Whale Hill RV Park is a quiet RV community in Rocky Point with a limited number of full hookup spaces available. While it’s not on the beach, it’s conveniently located near restaurants, shopping, and other in-town amenities.

During our visit, the park felt calm and well-maintained, with a more residential atmosphere than the beachfront parks. It appears to cater mostly to full-time and seasonal RVers, as well as those looking for a place to store their rigs.

Overall, Whale Hill is a practical option for longer stays or RVers who prefer a quieter setting away from the busier beach areas.

RV Parks in Rocky Point Mexico That Are Closed or No Longer Active (2026 Update)

Not all RV parks in Rocky Point are currently operating, and a few have changed status since earlier years.

During our latest visit in 2026, the following RV parks appeared closed or inactive. That said, properties in Rocky Point do change hands from time to time, so there’s always a chance these parks could reopen under new ownership. We’ll keep an eye on them and update this guide if they return as RV destinations.

The Boulders RV Park:

C. Manuel Arista, Benito Juárez, 83554 Puerto Peñasco, Son., México

​Status update (2026): The Boulders RV Park is currently closed and listed for sale. At the time of my latest update, it was not accepting reservations.

Previously, The Boulders was located two blocks from beach access in a quiet residential area of Puerto Peñasco. It offered full hookups, gated entry, and convenient access to nearby pharmacies, restaurants, and convenience stores.

Until the property reopens or is renovated under new ownership, I recommend choosing one of the other Rocky Point RV parks listed above.

Sunset RV Park (2026 Update)

Plutarco Elias Calles and 25 Puerto Peñasco, Sonora C.P. 83550

Update (2026): When we revisited Sunset RV Park this week, the property appeared inactive. There were no visible signs of active RV guests, the saltwater pool was not operational, and we did not observe gated security at the entrance.

At this time, it appears the park may no longer be functioning as an active RV park. I recommend confirming directly with the property before planning a stay.

Sunset RV Park was previously known for its small, intimate layout, saltwater pool, dog park, and on-site restaurant with hot breakfast. However, based on our recent visit, these amenities did not appear to be operating.

I will continue to monitor for updates and revise this guide if the park reopens or changes ownership.

RVing to Rocky Point Mexico: What to Know Before You Go

If you’re booking one of these RV parks, chances are you’re driving in through the Lukeville border crossing. We found the drive to Rocky Point much easier than we expected, but it does take some planning.

Puerto Peñasco is about four hours from Phoenix or Tucson. Most RV travelers head south on Route 85 through Ajo and cross at Lukeville.

The biggest tip we can give you is to time your crossing so you arrive at your RV park before dark. Driving into Rocky Point after nightfall is not something we recommend, especially in a larger rig.

Mexican Insurance and Documents

Mexican vehicle insurance is required, so make sure you have it in place before you reach the border. Many U.S. policies do not cover Mexico, so this is worth checking ahead of time. We always compare coverage and rates before we go, and if you still need a policy, you can get a quote for Mexican insurance here.
We also recommend keeping both digital and printed copies of your documents. At a minimum, have these ready:

• valid driver’s license
• current registration for your RV, trailer, and towed vehicle
• Mexican vehicle insurance
• Passport
• FMM paperwork if you are staying more than 72 hours

Lukeville Border Crossing Tips

Crossing at Lukeville can feel intimidating the first time, but being organized helps a lot. The border is open daily from 6 am to 8 pm, and Puerto Peñasco is still about an hour beyond the crossing, so leave yourself enough time.

Before you go, double-check your rig for anything that could cause problems at inspection. Firearms, ammunition, pepper spray, marijuana, certain medications, and even some seeds or plants can create serious issues at the border. We also recommend putting valuables out of sight and having your paperwork easy to reach.

If you’re stopped for inspection, stay calm, be respectful, and only open the areas officers ask to see. Everyone in your vehicle will need to appear in person at immigration if you are getting your FMM.

Driving to Puerto Peñasco

Once you are across, the drive into Rocky Point is pretty straightforward. Stay on the main roads, watch your speed, and remember that signs are posted in kilometers, not miles per hour. “ALTOS” means stop, and speed traps are common, so it pays to take your time.

Road conditions can vary. Watch for potholes, avoid shortcuts until you know the area, and be especially cautious with large rigs on steep crossings, side streets, and after bad weather. We stick to the main route and follow directions from our RV park whenever possible.

Best Things to Do in Rocky Point Mexico (Beaches, Food, and Local Spots)

While choosing the right RV park is important, what really makes Rocky Point special is how easy it is to enjoy your time once you’re there. Whether you prefer relaxing by the water or getting out to explore, there’s plenty to do.

Most of our time is spent right at the beach. The Sea of Cortez is known for its calm water, soft waves, and beautiful sunsets. Some beaches are sandy and perfect for swimming, while others are more rocky and great for tide pooling and fishing. One of the biggest perks of RVing here is how close you can camp to the water — in many parks, it’s just a short walk from your RV to the beach.
