Las Vegas Itinerary 5 Days: Introduction

Before we jump into the full 5-day Las Vegas itinerary, there is one thing that can make or break your trip.

Pacing.

It is easy to try to do everything, especially in the first couple of days, but that is also the fastest way to burn out and miss the parts you will enjoy most.

After years of trips and learning this the hard way, we have built this itinerary to balance the must-see experiences with enough breathing room so you can enjoy it all without feeling rushed.

Here is how your 5 days in Las Vegas will look.

Las vegas vacation ahead.

Quick 5 Day Las Vegas Itinerary Overview

Here is a quick look at how your 5 days in Las Vegas will flow. This will help you see the big picture before we break it down day by day.

Day 1: Arrival and The Strip

Settle in, explore the Strip, visit iconic hotels, and catch your first show or enjoy the Bellagio fountains at night.

Day 2: The Best of the Strip

Spend the day visiting top attractions, enjoy great food, and experience more of the energy that makes Vegas so unique.

Day 3: Downtown and Fremont Street

Head off the Strip to explore Fremont Street, discover a different side of Vegas, and enjoy a more laid-back but lively atmosphere.

Day 4: Pool Day or Unique Experience

Relax with a pool day, book a tour, or try something different, like a day trip or one of the more unique Vegas experiences.

Day 5: Brunch and Wrap Up

Enjoy a slower morning with brunch, do some last-minute shopping, and wrap up your trip without feeling rushed.

We will break each day down step by step so you know exactly what to do, when to do it, and how to make the most of your time.

Day 1: Arrival, First Look at Vegas, and Downtown

Your first day in Las Vegas is all about getting oriented without overdoing it. It is tempting to try to do everything right away, but pacing yourself early will make the rest of your trip much more enjoyable.

Morning and Early Afternoon: Get Oriented Without Overdoing It

If this is your first time in Las Vegas, it can feel overwhelming fast. One of the easiest ways to get your bearings without exhausting yourself on day one is the Big Bus Hop On and Off tour.

We have tried walking the Strip on day one before, and it is a mistake. Distances are much farther than they look, and the heat can drain you quickly. This is a much easier way to see a lot without burning out.

The full sightseeing loop takes about 2.5 hours and covers the Downtown Arts District, Wedding Chapel Row, Fremont Street, and the Las Vegas Strip.

You do not need to hop off at every stop. For this itinerary, we recommend staying on the bus until your first main stop.

Stop 1: Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign

Time: About 1 hour

Stay on the bus until you reach the famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign.

This is one of those spots that looks quick but can take longer than expected because of the line for photos. It is worth it, though, especially if this is your first visit.

One thing to know ahead of time: people around the sign may offer to take your photo. They will expect a tip, and it can feel awkward if you are not prepared.

We usually just take turns with other visitors in line. It is easier and avoids the pressure.

Once you have your photos, hop back on the bus and continue the loop.

Stop 2: The Mob Museum

Time: About 2 hours

Next, ride the bus to the Mob Museum stop.

This is one of the most interesting museums in Las Vegas and gives a different perspective on the city. You will learn about figures like Al Capone and Bugsy Siegel and how Vegas became what it is today.

At the end, head down to the underground speakeasy. This is a fun break and something many people miss.

If you go, try the Bathtub Fizz or the Bees Knees. And yes, ask for the password. It is part of the experience.

Stop 3: Downtown Arts District and Lunch

Time: About 2 hours

By now, you will probably be ready for a slower pace and some food.

The Downtown Arts District is one of our favorite places to go when we want a break from the Strip. It feels more local, less crowded, and has some of the best food in the city.

A few great options here:

  • Casa Don Juan for classic Mexican food
  • Esther’s Kitchen for a more upscale meal
  • Good Pie if you want something quick and really good

Take your time here. Walk around, check out the murals, and enjoy the change of pace.

Late Afternoon: Head Back and Recharge

After lunch, take the bus back toward your hotel near the Strip or Fremont Street.

This is the perfect time to rest for a bit. Do not skip this part. Even a short break will make your evening much more enjoyable.

Later tonight is when Vegas really comes alive.

Evening: Dinner and a Show

Your first night in Las Vegas is when the city really comes alive. This is the perfect time to enjoy a great meal and experience one of the shows Vegas is known for.

One thing we have learned over the years is to keep your first night simple. Pick one show and plan your dinner around it, rather than trying to do too much. It makes the night feel more relaxed and a lot more enjoyable.

Many of these shows are held in intimate venues where you are just a few feet from the stage, which makes the experience feel even more immersive.

You have two easy ways to plan your evening.  Go for an early dinner and a later show, or catch an early show and enjoy a relaxed dinner afterward.

Here are a few great options based on location, so you are not rushing across the Strip.

Option 1: Caesars Palace Area

Show: Absinthe
This is one of the most popular shows in Las Vegas. It is funny, bold, and very different from traditional stage shows. If you want something memorable for your first night, this is a great pick.

Dining Options:

  • Bacchanal Buffet for a classic Vegas experience
  • Stanton Social Prime for something more upscale
  • Gordon Ramsay Pub and Grill for something casual and reliable

Option 2: New York New York Area

Show: Mad Apple by Cirque du Soleil
This is a fun mix of comedy, music, and acrobatics. It has a high-energy feel that works well for your first night.

Dining Options:

  • Gallagher’s Steakhouse for a traditional dinner
  • Nine Fine Irishmen for something more casual and lively

Option 3: The Sphere Experience

Show: The Sphere Experience or a Live Concert
The Sphere is one of the newest and most talked-about attractions in Las Vegas. If you want something completely different, this is the place to go.  The immersive experience is unlike anything else in the city and a great way to start your trip with a memorable experience. If a concert falls within your dates, that can be an incredible option as well.

Dining Options (Nearby):

Restaurants at The Venetian or Palazzo offer a wide range of options:

  • Yardbird is a popular and casual choice
  • Mott 32 for a more upscale dinner

Option 4: Cosmopolitan Area

Show: Choose a Headliner or Lounge Experience
While some shows change frequently in this area, The Cosmopolitan is always a great place to spend an evening with live music, lounges, and a high-energy atmosphere.

Dining Options:

  • Superfrico for a fun and interactive dinner
  • Beauty and Essex for a more upscale vibe
  • STK for a lively steakhouse experience

No matter which option you choose, try not to overbook your first night. You will have plenty of time to explore more over the next few days.

Focus on enjoying the moment, taking it all in, and getting your first real taste of what makes Las Vegas so fun.

Morning and Early Afternoon: 7 Magic Mountains and Hoover Dam

If you want to see something beyond the casinos, combining the 7 Magic Mountains and the Hoover Dam is an easy and worthwhile half-day trip.

We have done this a few different ways over the years, and grouping them together saves a lot of time.

You can either take a half-day trip outside the city or spend the day exploring more of the Strip. Both are great options depending on your travel style.

Stop 1: 7 Magic Mountains

Time: About 30 to 45 minutes

This colorful art installation sits just outside the city and is one of the most popular photo spots near Las Vegas.

You do not need much time here, but it is worth the stop. The contrast of the bright stacked boulders against the desert landscape makes it feel very different from anything you will see on the Strip.

Try to go earlier in the day if you can. It gets hot quickly, and there is very little shade.

Stop 2: Hoover Dam

Time: About 2 to 3 hours

From there, head to the Hoover Dam, which is about a 45-minute drive from Las Vegas.

This is one of those places that is even more impressive in person. Walking across the dam and seeing its scale up close is something you really cannot appreciate from photos.

If you have the time, the power plant tour is worth doing. It gives you a deeper look at how the dam works and offers more than just walking across it.

How to Get to 7 Magic Mountains and Hoover Dam

You have a few options depending on how you like to travel:

  • Rental car: The easiest way to combine both stops and go at your own pace
  • Rideshare: Possible, but it can get expensive and less flexible
  • Guided tour: A good option if you do not want to drive and prefer everything planned out

If you prefer not to drive, a guided tour is the easiest way to see both 7 Magic Mountains and the Hoover Dam in one trip without worrying about directions, parking, or timing.

We have done tours like this before, and it takes a lot of the stress out of the day. You can just relax and enjoy the experience instead of trying to figure everything out as you go.

👉 Check availability and pricing for this tour here

Tours like this can fill up quickly, especially on weekends, so it is a good idea to book ahead if it fits your schedule.

Afternoon: Head Back and Reset

Plan to head back to Las Vegas by early afternoon.

We always recommend building in a little downtime here. Whether that is relaxing at your hotel, grabbing a casual bite, or spending some time by the pool, this break helps you recharge before another full evening.

It might feel like you are slowing down, but this is exactly what keeps the trip enjoyable over five days.

If you would rather stay on the Strip instead of leaving the city, here is a great way to spend the day at a more relaxed pace.

Prefer to Stay on the Strip Instead?

This is a great option if you want to avoid extra travel time and enjoy more of what Las Vegas has to offer without feeling rushed.

We have done both versions of this day, and sometimes staying in the city is the better choice, especially if you want to avoid extra travel time or just enjoy more of what Vegas has to offer.

Here is an easy way to plan your day:

Late Morning: Brunch and Walk the Strip

Start your day with a relaxed brunch and take your time walking through some of the major hotels. Each one has something different to see, from themed interiors to shops and attractions.

Midday: Pool or Spa Time

This is a great time to enjoy your hotel pool or book a spa treatment. Slowing down here helps balance out the busy days and nights.

Afternoon: Explore Indoor Attractions

Pick one or two attractions so you do not feel rushed. A few good options include:

  • The Venetian Grand Canal shops and gondola rides
  • The Bellagio Conservatory and fountains
  • The High Roller observation wheel for great views of the city

Las Vegas Itinerary Day #2: Evening – Fremont Street Experience

After a full day, Fremont Street is the perfect place to experience a completely different side of Las Vegas. If the Strip feels polished and upscale, Fremont is louder, more casual, and a lot more unpredictable. This is where the energy shifts, and it is worth spending at least one night here.

Start Your Night at Atomic Liquors

We like to start the night at Atomic Liquors and work our way toward the heart of Fremont.

What makes Atomic worth the stop is the history. It is believed to be the oldest freestanding bar in Las Vegas and was granted the city’s first tavern license.

Back in the 1950s, people would gather here for rooftop parties to watch nuclear tests detonate in the desert. It is one of those places that gives you a glimpse into what Las Vegas was like long before the mega resorts took over the Strip.

In recent years, they have expanded to include an outdoor patio with food service, which is a great option if you want something more relaxed.

That said, make sure you step inside. That is where you really feel the history. The interior still has that old Vegas character that you just do not get on the patio.

It is not fancy, and that is exactly the point.

It is a great place to ease into the night before things get more crowded.

Head Toward Container Park

From Atomic, head toward Container Park.

You will know you are in the right place when you see the giant fire-breathing praying mantis out front.

This area has a more relaxed vibe compared to Fremont Street and is a great spot to grab a drink at Oak and Ivy or take a quick walk through the shops and open spaces.

Walk Into the Fremont Street Action

As you make your way from Container Park toward the main Fremont Street canopy, you will pass through a stretch that feels a little more local and less crowded.

This is a great place to slow down for a few minutes before stepping into the main action.

Along the way, there are a couple of spots worth stepping into.

Evel Pie is one of those places worth stopping, even if you are not hungry. The pizza is good, but the Evel Knievel memorabilia and overall vibe make it a fun, quick stop.

Right across the street, The Griffin has a completely different feel. It is dark, a little quieter, and has a cozy, almost castle-like atmosphere with indoor fire pits and seating around them. It is a great place to reset before heading into the crowds.

Step Into the Fremont Street Experience

From here, continue toward the main Fremont Street canopy where the energy really starts to build.

This is what Fremont Street is known for. The entire street is covered by a massive LED canopy that stretches overhead, and every night it comes alive with music, lights, and video shows that run throughout the evening.

It is hard to describe until you see it, but imagine standing under a giant screen that spans several blocks, with music playing and visuals moving all around you. It turns the entire street into a show.

Take your time here. Stop, look up, and watch at least one full light show. This is one of those moments that makes Fremont feel completely different from the Strip.

As you move through the crowd, you will see live bands, street performers, and something happening in almost every direction. It can feel a little chaotic, but that is part of the experience.

One of the most fun ways to experience Fremont from a different perspective is the SlotZilla zipline. You can ride seated or fully horizontal as you fly above the crowd with the lights and music all around you.

Even if you do not ride it, it is worth watching for a few minutes. Seeing people zip overhead while the canopy lights are going adds to the energy of the whole street.

Classic Vegas Stops Along the Way

As you continue through Fremont, there are a few stops we always recommend along the way:

Binion’s Gambling Hall
Stop in to see the famous one-million-dollar display. It is quick, but it is one of those old-school Vegas moments.

The D Casino
Head upstairs to find vintage coin-operated slot machines and Sigma Derby. This is one of those things that ends up being more fun than expected.

Golden Nugget Shark Tank
Stop into the Golden Nugget to see the Shark Tank pool. You can watch sharks circling right next to the pool, which is one of the more unique things to see in Las Vegas.

Gold Spike
If you are traveling with a group or want something a little different, Gold Spike a fun stop just off Fremont. The indoor space feels more like a living room than a typical bar, and the backyard area has games and a more playful, social vibe. It is quirky, a little weird, and definitely feels like a different side of Vegas.

Circa for a More Upscale Break

If you are looking for a break from the crowds, step into Circa.  It is an adults-only property and has a completely different feel from the rest of Fremont. Head up to the Legacy Club for a drink and some of the best views of the Las Vegas skyline. This is a great spot to slow things down for a bit before heading back into the energy of Fremont.

End the Night with Live Music

Wrap up your night at Sand Dollar Lounge.

It is one of the best spots for live music and a great place to sit down, relax, and enjoy a drink after walking Fremont Street.

Getting Back

If you are staying on the Strip, you can catch the Deuce bus or grab a rideshare back to your hotel.

If you are driving, it is worth considering moving your car closer to the far end of Fremont Street after visiting Container Park, so you are not walking back at the end of the night.

Fremont Street is one of those places where you do not need a strict plan. Walk, explore, and stop wherever it looks interesting.

This is your night to experience a more unfiltered version of Las Vegas.

Day 3: Exploring the Las Vegas Strip

Day 3 is all about experiencing the Las Vegas Strip in a way that actually makes sense.

If you try to see everything without a plan, you will end up walking miles, doubling back, and wearing yourself out before the day is over. We have done that before, and it is not nearly as fun as it sounds.

The Strip is longer than most people expect. At over four miles, it is nearly impossible to cover everything in one day, so the goal here is not to see it all. It is to explore it in a way that feels enjoyable and not overwhelming.

The best way to do that is to move in one direction and be intentional about where you stop. This keeps you from crisscrossing the Strip and wasting time.

This is also one of the best days for people watching. The energy changes throughout the day, and even just walking through the casino lobbies and public spaces is part of the experience.

There is no need to rush this morning. Las Vegas runs 24 hours a day, and you will have more time later in your trip to circle back to anything you missed.

Today is about exploring, taking it all in, and enjoying the experience without trying to do too much.

Start Your Day with Brunch and a View

Begin your day in the center of the Strip with brunch overlooking the Bellagio fountains.

A few of our favorite spots:

  • Mon Ami Gabi at Paris for a classic patio experience
  • Lago at Bellagio for a more upscale setting
  • Ole Red for a fun, lively atmosphere with great views

This is one of the best ways to ease into the day while still feeling right in the middle of everything.

Explore the Center Strip First

From here, stay on one side of the Strip and explore what is nearby before crossing over. This will save you a lot of time and energy.

Some must-see stops in this area:

  • Bellagio Conservatory and fountains

The Bellagio is one of those places that feels like classic Las Vegas the moment you walk in.  Make sure to look up when you enter the lobby. The Chihuly glass ceiling is one of the most recognizable features in the hotel, with vibrant colors and incredible detail that make it worth stopping for a minute. From there, head into the Conservatory. It changes with the seasons, and walking through it feels a little like stepping into a themed garden or wonderland right in the middle of the Strip. Before you leave, stop by to see the chocolate fountain. It is one of those fun, over-the-top Vegas details that you would not expect, but somehow fits perfectly here. And of course, do not miss the fountains out front. Even if you have already seen them once, it is worth stopping again.

  • The Cosmopolitan, for its unique vibe and hidden spots

This is one of our favorite hotels on the Strip. It has a completely different feel from the others, with a mix of modern design, hidden spaces, and a little bit of a quirky edge.Make sure to look up when you walk through. The Chandelier is one of the most distinctive features in Las Vegas, and the escalators pass right through it, making it feel like part of the experience rather than just something to look at. This is also a great place to slow down for a bit, grab a drink, or just wander and see what you find. There are many hidden corners here that most people miss.

The chandelier bar in las vegas with purple lighting and multi level crystal strands above a busy lounge

  • The Shops at Crystals for a quick look at the luxury side of Vegas.Step inside for a completely different side of the Strip. This is where you will find high-end designer stores and sleek, modern architecture that feels more like an art gallery than a shopping mall.
  • Caesars Palace and the Forum Shops. Take some time to walk through Caesars Palace and the Forum Shops. This is one of the more iconic stops on the Strip, and it is worth slowing down a bit here. One of our favorite things to see is the statues throughout the property, especially the replica of Michelangelo’s David. It is one of those unexpected details that makes you stop for a second and reminds you how over-the-top Las Vegas can be.  Between the architecture, the details, and the atmosphere, this is a fun place to wander for a while without a plan.

This is one of the most iconic parts of Las Vegas.

Happy Hour with Big Elvis

From Caesars, it is an easy walk across the Strip to Harrah’s, where you can catch the Big Elvis show for Happy Hour in the Piano Bar.

It is a great place to take a break, with plenty of seating and a comfortable indoor space to cool off and relax for a bit before continuing your day.

This is one of those classic Vegas experiences that feels unplanned in the best way. It is relaxed, a little quirky, and a fun way to reset after a full day of walking.

Step into Old Vegas at the Flamingo

After happy hour, make your way over to the Flamingo.  This is one of the older properties on the Strip, and it still has that classic Vegas feel that is easy to miss in the newer resorts.

Step outside to the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat, where you can see the flamingos and walk through a peaceful garden area right in the middle of the Strip.

It is a nice change of pace before heading back into the evening’s energy.

Head to the Linq Promenade

From the Flamingo, it is an easy walk over to the Linq Promenade.

This area is open, walkable, and feels more like an outdoor social space than a casino. It is a great place to grab a drink, people-watch, or just enjoy the atmosphere.

Ride the High Roller at Sunset

If your timing lines up, this is one of the best ways to end your daytime exploring.

The High Roller gives you a full view of the city as the light changes over the desert. Watching the Strip transition from day to night from above is one of those moments that really stand out.

It is a great way to slow things down and take it all in before heading into the evening.

High roller observation wheel at the linq promenade in las vegas lit up at night with crowds below

Where to Eat Along the Way

There are hundreds of restaurants along the Strip in every direction, and they are constantly changing. Because of that, we do not recommend locking yourself into one specific place unless you already have your heart set on it.

Instead, this is a great part of your trip: staying flexible. If something catches your eye, go for it. Some of the best meals we have had in Las Vegas were completely unplanned.

If you are looking for a sit-down meal away from the crowds but still close to the action, one place we always come back to is Battista’s Hole in the Wall.

It is tucked just off the Strip behind the Stage Door Casino, and it feels like stepping into a completely different version of Las Vegas.

The food is consistently good, the service is fun and a little old-school, and the walls are covered in memorabilia that give it a true hidden-gem feel.

You can easily walk there from Horseshoe or the far end of the Linq Promenade, making it a simple detour without leaving the area.

If you are looking for something a little more relaxed and memorable, this is a great option.

Day 3: Evening Options

After a full day on the Strip, this is a great time to decide what kind of night you want to have.
You can either go all out with something over-the-top or slow things down with a more relaxed, unique experience.

Something Over the Top: Night Helicopter Tour

If you want to do something unforgettable, this is the moment.

Seeing Las Vegas from above at night is a completely different experience. The entire Strip lights up, and from the air, you really get a sense of how big and bright the city is.

It is one of those experiences that feels a little over the top in the best way, and Las Vegas is the perfect place for it.

Aerial view of las vegas strip at night with paris eiffel tower and bright casino lights

A More Relaxed Option: The Neon Museum at Night

If you are looking for something a little more laid back, the Neon Museum is one place we always recommend.

We have been a few times over the years, and it is still one of the most impressive experiences in Las Vegas, especially after dark.

An evening visit is when the space really comes to life. Many of the vintage signs are lit up, giving the entire area a completely different feel.

Day 4: Choose Your Adventure

By Day 4, you have seen a lot of Las Vegas, and this is where your trip can take a different direction.

This is your flexible day. You can get off the Strip and explore some of the natural beauty surrounding Las Vegas, or lean all the way into the Vegas experience and go big.

There is no right or wrong choice here. It really depends on your energy level and what kind of experience you are looking for.

Option 1: Grand Canyon Day Trip

If this is your only chance to see the Grand Canyon, it is absolutely worth considering.

It is a full-day commitment, but the scale and beauty of the canyon are hard to describe until you see it in person.

If you only have one day, a guided tour or helicopter experience is the easiest way to make it happen without worrying about logistics.

Option 2: Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks

A few hours north of Las Vegas are two of the most beautiful landscapes in the Southwest.

Bryce Canyon and Zion offer a completely different experience from the city, with dramatic rock formations, scenic overlooks, and wide-open spaces.

This is another full-day option, but it is a great way to balance out your trip with something quieter and more nature-focused.

Canyon hoodoos at sunrise with orange rock formations and blue sky on a day trip from las vegas

Option 3: Emerald Cove Kayak Tour

If you are looking for something active but not an all-day commitment, this is a great middle ground.

You can take the morning to relax and head out in the afternoon for a guided kayak tour through Emerald Cove.

The water, canyon walls, and slower pace make this feel like a completely different side of Las Vegas.

We haven’t done this one ourselves yet, but it’s one of the most recommended off-Strip experiences if you want something completely different from Vegas.

Option 4: Go All In on Vegas

If you’re looking for more ideas beyond the typical Vegas experience, we’ve put together a full guide to things to do in Las Vegas besides gambling, covering unique activities, hidden gems, and different ways to explore the city.

Pool Parties and Day Clubs

Day clubs and pool parties are a huge part of the Vegas scene. Expect loud music, big crowds, and a high-energy atmosphere. If this is your vibe, this is the day to do it.

Nightclubs

Tonight is the night to dress up and experience a Las Vegas nightclub. The production, music, and energy are on a completely different level.  If this has been on your list, this is the perfect night to make it happen.

Day 4 is all about choosing the experience that best fits you. Whether you are exploring canyons, kayaking through quiet water, or dancing all day and night, this is your chance to shape the trip around what you enjoy most.

Day 5: Slow Down and Soak It In

After a few busy days in Las Vegas, today is your time to slow things down a bit.

Sleep in, take your time getting ready, and enjoy a more relaxed start to the day. This is a great morning to order room service, grab a leisurely breakfast, or book a spa treatment if that is your style.

Revisit Your Favorite Spots

When you are ready, head back out to the Strip and use this time to revisit anything you may have missed or want to experience again.

This could be:

  • a hotel you did not have time to explore
  • a restaurant you kept thinking about
  • or simply walking through your favorite part of the Strip one more time

There is no strict plan today, and that is the point.

Last-Minute Shopping and Souvenirs

If you are looking to bring something home, this is a good time to do it.

Whether it is a quick stop for souvenirs or a little more shopping, you can keep it easy and fit it in wherever you are already exploring.

Something a Little Different: Area 15

If you are up for one more experience before heading home, Area 15 is worth checking out.

This massive entertainment complex is unlike anything else in Las Vegas. It blends art, immersive exhibits, and interactive experiences into one space.

You can explore places like Omega Mart, which feels more like walking through a surreal art installation than a store, or check out experiences like the Illuminarium.

It is a fun and unexpected way to end your trip on something a little different from the typical Strip experience.

Day 5 is all about enjoying your last few hours without rushing. Take it slow, revisit what you loved, and leave a little room for one more memorable experience before heading home.

Area15 immersive art installation in las vegas with glowing geometric sculpture and neon lights

Day 5: Nighttime

Your final night in Las Vegas is the perfect time to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Celebrate Your Last Night

Let your last night in Las Vegas be a celebration.

By now, you have seen a side of the city that many people miss. Instead of rushing from one place to the next, you experienced it in a way that feels more complete.

When we travel to Las Vegas with friends, we set aside the last night for this. It becomes less about what you are doing and more about who you are with.

This is a great night to plan a nice dinner. Whether it is a steakhouse, a restaurant with a view, or somewhere you have been wanting to try all trip, it is the perfect excuse to dress up a little and make it feel like an occasion.

After dinner, grab a drink, take a walk along the Strip one last time, or head back to a place you really enjoyed earlier in the trip.

There is no need for a packed schedule tonight.  This is your time to laugh, share your favorite moments, and soak in the last bit of Vegas before heading home.  It always ends up being one of our favorite nights of the trip.

Day 6: Bonus Day

If your trip is coming to an end today, it is time to pack up and head to the airport.

Give yourself a little extra time this morning. Harry Reid International Airport can get busy, so arriving about two hours early for a domestic flight is a good idea.

Before you leave, take a few minutes to do one last check of your room. Look in drawers, outlets, and behind doors for anything you may have missed.

It is a simple step, but it can save you from realizing something was left behind once you are already on your way home.

When is the Best Time to Visit Las Vegas?

The best time to visit Las Vegas is when you have the time and the budget to enjoy it. Gone are the days of the $1.99 buffets and cheap cab rides. Las Vegas can be expensive, so timing your trip can make a big difference in your overall experience.

Fall

Fall is one of our favorite times to visit. The temperatures start to cool down, making it much more comfortable to walk the Strip

It is also a busy time with Raiders football and Golden Knights hockey in full swing, so expect larger crowds and heavier traffic, especially on weekends.

Winter

Winter in Las Vegas is cooler, but still very manageable compared to most places. The weather is dry, and you can comfortably explore during the day.

The few weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas tend to be a little quieter, and the holiday decorations throughout the hotels are over the top and worth seeing at least once.

Spring

Spring brings moderate temperatures, but it can be windy at times.

March is one of the busiest months in Las Vegas, especially with events and spring break crowds. If you plan to visit during this time, expect higher prices and more people.

Summer

Summer in Las Vegas is extremely hot. Not just warm, but intense heat that can hit triple digits early in the day.

We visited during the summer, and it was honestly our least favorite time to go. Even the pool was not refreshing because the water felt too warm.

At one point, it felt like our eyeballs were melting just walking outside. We found ourselves staying in the room until dark, and even then, it was still close to 100 degrees.

If you do visit in the summer, plan your time carefully. Spend more time indoors during the day and save your walking and exploring for early morning or late at night.

There really is no bad time to visit Las Vegas. It just depends on what kind of experience you are looking for and how you plan to spend your time.

One thing that can have just as much impact as the season is what is happening in the city during your visit.

A Quick Tip About Events in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a major hub for conventions, sporting events, and festivals, and these can have a big impact on your trip.

Events like major boxing matches, Formula 1, large conventions such as CES or SEMA, and even rodeo week can bring huge crowds to the city.

When this happens, hotel prices go up, restaurants get busier, and traffic can slow everything down, including rideshares and taxis.

We have been in Las Vegas during some of these events, and it can completely change the feel of the trip, especially if you were not expecting it.

If your dates are flexible, it is worth checking what is happening in the city before you book. It can make a big difference in both price and overall experience.

Best Places to Stay in Las Vegas

With so many hotel options in Las Vegas, it can be hard to know where to start.

The biggest decision is not which hotel to choose, but where you want to stay. Once you figure that out, narrowing it down becomes much easier.

From ultra luxury resorts to more budget-friendly options, Las Vegas has something for every type of traveler.

On the Strip

If this is your first time visiting Las Vegas or you want to be in the center of everything, staying on the Strip is the best choice.

This is where you will find the iconic hotels, major attractions, and most of the experiences included in this itinerary.

Keep in mind that these properties are massive. What looks close on a map can easily turn into a long walk, even just getting from the lobby to your room.

It is also typically the more expensive option, but for many people, it is worth it to be in the middle of the action.

Suggested Area: Park MGM, Aria, Cosmopolitan, Paris

👉 If you want to stay in this area, you can check availability and compare prices here before you book.

Fremont Street (Downtown)

Staying on Fremont Street offers a completely different experience.

It is more compact, easier to get around, and has a more laid-back, old-school Vegas feel compared to the Strip.

If you like the idea of being close to live music, nightlife, and a more social atmosphere without as much walking, this can be a great option.

Suggested Hotels: Circa, El Cortez

👉If you are considering staying downtown, it is worth checking current pricing and availability ahead of time, especially on weekends.

Where you stay will shape your entire trip, so think about the kind of experience you want before you book. Some people even choose to split their stay between the Strip and Fremont to get the best of both.

RV Parks and Campgrounds

If you are traveling by RV, Las Vegas has several great options near the Strip.

We have done this ourselves, and it can be a really comfortable and flexible way to experience the city. You get your own space while still being just a short drive or rideshare away from the action.

Most RV parks offer full hookups, pools, and easy access to both the Strip and downtown areas.

Two solid options to consider are Las Vegas Oasis, which is closer to the south end of the Strip, and KOA at Sam’s Town, which gives you a more local feel on the east side of the city.

If you are planning to visit during a busy time, it is a good idea to book ahead, as spots can fill up quickly.

We also like using tools such as RV Trip Wizard to map routes and find campgrounds. It makes it much easier to compare options and plan your stay before you arrive. They offer a free trial, which is a great way to explore what is available in the area.

👉 If you are planning your RV route, you can try RV Trip Wizard here. We have used it to map out trips and find campgrounds, and it makes the process a lot easier.

How To Get Around Las Vegas

Getting around Las Vegas is easier than it looks, but choosing the right option can make a big difference in your overall experience.

Rental Car

Renting a car can be convenient, especially if you plan to explore beyond the Strip or take day trips like Hoover Dam or Red Rock Canyon.

That said, parking fees, traffic, and navigating large hotel properties can add up quickly. If you are mostly staying on the Strip, you may not need a car for your entire trip.

Ride Share

Using rideshare services like Uber or Lyft is one of the easiest ways to get around Las Vegas.

It is convenient, widely available, and a great option if you do not want to deal with parking or driving. Just keep in mind that prices can increase during busy times or major events.

Private Car Services

For something a little more elevated, private car services are available throughout the city.

This can be a fun option for special occasions or a night out if you want to avoid the hassle of transportation altogether.

Taxi

Taxis are still very common in Las Vegas, especially at hotels where designated taxi stands make them easy to access.

They are a reliable option if you prefer not to use rideshare apps.

Las Vegas Monorail

The Las Vegas Monorail sounds like a great idea, but in our experience, it is more of a gimmick than a practical way to get around.

The stops are often not directly connected to the hotels’ main entrances, so you still end up doing a fair amount of walking just to get where you are going.

We have tried using it, and it never felt like it saved time compared to simply walking or using a rideshare.

If your goal is convenience, you are usually better off sticking with Uber, Lyft, or walking the Strip when possible.

The Deuce Bus

The Deuce is a double-decker bus that runs along Las Vegas Boulevard, connecting the Strip to Downtown Las Vegas and Fremont Street.

It is one of the most affordable ways to get around, but it can be slower due to frequent stops and traffic.

Walking the Strip (What to Expect)

Walking is one of the main ways people get around Las Vegas, but it is not always as easy as it looks.

What seems like a short distance on a map can turn into a long walk. The hotels are massive, and getting from one property to another often takes more time than expected.

You also cannot cross the street just anywhere. Most crossings are done using pedestrian bridges, which means going up escalators or elevators, crossing over traffic, and then coming back down on the other side.

We see people walking long distances all the time and often wonder where they are headed. It can be much farther than it looks, especially in the heat.

It is also worth noting that walking between the Strip and Fremont Street is not recommended. The distance is significant, and it is better to use a rideshare or taxi to get between the two areas.

Walking can be a great way to explore, but planning your route and knowing when to take a ride can make your trip much more enjoyable.

Final Thoughts on Your 5 Day Las Vegas Itinerary

Las Vegas is one of those places that can feel overwhelming at first, but with a plan, it becomes one of the most fun and memorable trips you can take.

Over these five days, you have experienced a mix of the Strip, downtown, unique activities, and even a few hidden gems that many visitors never see.

That is what makes this itinerary different. It is not about doing everything. It is about experiencing Las Vegas in a way that actually feels enjoyable and balanced.

We have been coming to Las Vegas for years, and every trip feels a little different. That is part of what keeps us coming back.

If this is your first visit, it likely will not be your last.

Before you go, one quick tip we have learned the hard way: stay hydrated. Between the walking, the dry desert air, and everything else going on, it is easy to forget, but it makes a big difference in how you feel throughout your trip.

We also put together a short video on how to survive Las Vegas that walks through a few of these tips in a simple way.

Enjoy your trip, take it at your own pace, and make it your own.
